adam stoves.

adam

this is adam. good friend and former roommate. i have always been impressed with adam's ability to constantly create work. not only create work, but incredible work. when we lived together it seemed that he was either watching aquateen or making work. one or the other. adam is currently enrolled at unlv for his mfa. i have been keeping an eye on his flickr stream to peak at his latest work and stumbled upon this 'making of' video.

i don't know what my favorite part is. the process or the fabulous moustache he is rocking. anyway. this is a shout out to adam. i miss you d00d.

march post...

recycling bins, birmingham al. 2008

i have amassed several rolls of undeveloped film over the past few months. i really wish i could afford to have them processed and scanned faster. but, i have no time to scan myself and am typically not getting paid to shoot the film so there is usually no rush. i probably have 4 rolls of 35mm and 5 of 120 and 220.

i have also been shooting more digital lately in an effort to offset the cost of film and forcing myself to appreciate digital for what it is. quality, affordable, and instant. i really just need to continue developing post processing techniques that make the digital images more fun.

i am pondering the idea of an east coast roadtrip. i have family i would really love to see scattered up the coast. raleigh, boston, and maine. perhaps cap it off with a week or so in surrey with my aunt and uncle. perhaps come up with a soth-ian project to do.

50 states project

i have always been interested in why and how publications choose photographers to represent a generation, a genre, a style, or a state. today i saw on photo editor's blog a 50 states project that stuart pilkington has put together. the project consists of giving these photographers assignments to illustrate things about their state, the first one is:

"On 2nd January 2009 I set all 50 photographers within the project the same task. I asked them to photograph one or more individuals whom they felt represented the State where they live."

awesome. great concept. now, who would be photographed to best illustrate alabama? you guessed it, ruben studdard. yeah, remember that love-able, area code jersey wearing, media conglomerate created, soul singing dude? really? is that who represents the state that i call home? i hope not.

taylor is a friend of mine, and this isn't an attack on him, simply a critique. i want that to be understood. i am just frustrated with the choice subject and treatment in this case. i just think it's predictable and boring and ruben hasn't done anything in years.
